Our annual Halloween party for MIAD students and faculty will go down Friday, October 28th from 6-11PM at Discovery World! Every year we expand things a bit more, and this year we’ve expanded things even more than a bit more.
For one the Collaborative Mural Project has gone modular. There will be a stack of cut and primed wood panels ready for color available on a first come first serve basis for anyone who would like to contribute. Over the course of the evening as these panels are completed they will be mounted on a wall in the main exhibit area (just outside the Print and Publishing lab). We will have various cans of paint and brushes available, however it is recommended that you bring your own supplies.
MIAD’s student government will once again generously put up $200 in prizes for a costume contest. The Kohl’s Design it! Lab at Discovery World will be holding an open costume design workshop with all sorts of materials and equipment to help make winners out of all of us. Whether you’re starting from scratch, in need of somewhere to build, or require some last minute repairs before the contest, the folks in the Kohl’s Design It! Lab will have glue guns, laser cutters, and vacuum formers on the ready.
Food! Pizza Shuttle will be delivering many pizzas, and Discovery World will provide cold soda and water in a cooler in the Print lab.
Dancing! A DJ will have loud jams for you to get down to.
Exhibits! The Techno Jungle, Les Paul House of Sound, Energy, Bucyrus Mining, and Milwaukee Muscle exhibits at Discovery World will be open for exploration.
There is more in the works including Performers!, but in the spirit of Halloween further things will be remain a surprise.
Getting here: Discovery World is located on Milwaukee’s Lake front between the Art Museum and Sumemrfest grounds. There will be shuttles from the dorms, free parking along Harbor Drive ($7 event parking in DW’s garage), and plenty of bike space if your costume is bike-friendly.
Admission: FREE admission for MIAD students and faculty with student/faculty ID. NO admission for general public. You may bring a guest or two as long as they are accompanied by a student or faculty member.
This is an event for MIAD to celebrate an excellent partnership with Discovery World. Please enjoy!
