Fall 2010 Collaborative Mural Design Night / MIAD Halloween Party

Collaborative Mural Design Night is back! Thanks to an excellent first event, we’re getting out the primer for another evening of creative celebration at Discovery World.

General Info

  • Admission is free and limited to MIAD students and faculty, plus their guests. Present your student/faculty ID at the door for entry.
  • Parking in the underground garage is free throughout the evening
  • Discovery World is located on Milwaukee’s lakefront between the Summerfest grounds and the Milwaukee Art Museum (<10 minute walk from MIAD)

Mural Painting

  • A large, primed white wall in our Print & Publishing lab (same wall as last time)
  • Artists are free to create whatever they wish so long is it does not interfere with the work of others.
  • Space available on a first come first serve basis
  • Various colors of acrylic/latex interior paint and brushes will be available, however bringing your own supplies is highly recommended
  • No oils or spray paint please
  • Lasercutters will be available for creating stencils as well as a power painter for applying paint
  • Screens will be available for vertical screen printing
  • There will be a camera capturing time-lapse video of the mural’s creation to immortalize the process

Costume Contest

  • The annual MIAD costume contest will be happening
  • $500 in prizes, and judging by you!

Circuit Bending

  • Open circuit bending workshop from 6-10pm
  • We picked up a case of 30 second voice recorder toys that are quite bend-friendly
  • Equipment and seating is limited. Advanced reservations are recommended and can be made by contacting diy@discoveryworld.org

Labs Orientation

  • Get to know our Prototyping lab, Print & Publishing lab, and Audio Recording studio
  • Technicians will be on hand to answer questions and explain lab capabilities

Food and drink

  • Pizza by Pizza Shuttle
  • Soda, water, and snacks

Music

  • Dj sets by the Flannel McOld Face duo
  • They’re putting together a night of jams for you to get down to

Exhibits

  • The Technology Building will be open throughout the evening
  • Exhibits include: The Les Paul House of Sound, Techno Jungle, Energy and Ingenuity, and Milwaukee Muscle
